Viruses for Macs are not very common. Microsoft Windows is always cursed for the threat of so many viruses and trojan horses that are targeted just because it is the most used Operating System worldwide.
For those of you who think that Mac and Linux can’t have any viruses, please update your database. Last week Mac OS X users were exploited by a Trojan horse which came along with the Pirated versions of iWork ’09 software downloaded from Torrent sites.
After installing this pirated iWork application, Trojan horse named as OSX.Trojan.iServices.A is able to access read, write and execute permission for the root account of Mac OS X machine and connect to another machine somewhere else online without any knowledge of user.
Around more than 15,000 Mac users were affected from this Trojan. And now today, after one week, yet another Mac Trojan virus is discovered as reported by Macenstein. This time this virus is coming through cracked version of Adobe Photoshop CS4 from Bittorrent sites.
This new virus is a variation of the previously found Trojan on pirated iWork OSX.Trojan.iServices and exploits the user machine in similar manner.
Well, as you must have guessed, this is a warning to all pirated software downloaders from torrent sites. For Windows some or other software maker will release a fix or a patch to fight these viruses but for Mac, it may take some time for the job.
These days, such cases of online threats as well as hacking of IM accounts are increasing. Though you can’t do much about it but it is always recommended to browse safely with your Firewalls and Anti-virus always on.
