Blackberry is the favorite brand in the United States. Recently, though not impressive but it has made market in India too. Research in Motion today has announced premium Blackberry phones in India to be launched soon and that too unlocked.
Though Blackberry is very much enterprise phone which has very less value in Indian Markets but recently if you see Blackberry launched some multimedia phones in India too but price is still the issue.
In India, Blackberry is always tied to some particular networks like Vodafone, Airtel, Idea and comes with the data plan which is not only expensive but also not easy to reach for a common man. If you’re seeing advertisements, Blackberry Storm is their latest handset launched which they have partnered with Vodafone India. And price of Blackberry storm in India is around Rs. 27000 (550$) which is lesser than iPhone and Nokia N97.
Since demand for enterprise phones in India is not much and most of the segment is currently captured by HTC mobiles here, Blackberry will soon announce unlocked handsets of some of the popular models here.
Initially Blackberry will be selling these unlocked versions only in few cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad , Pune, Ahmedabad etc. Redington India will be there distribution partner.
With iPhone 3G sales not so impressive in India this may give Blackberry tough time but they also have plans to attract more customers with some cool localized app and with MTNL’s 3G network, unlike iPhone, you could be able to browse with broadband like speeds too on these unlocked handsets.
