Twitter reports Earthquake before anyone else could

Twitter So you thought micro-blogging was just for fun ? After just few seconds the earthquake hit near Los Angeles today, Twitter updates started to rush in from the users. That was only after 4 minutes, official news agency started to pour in updates about the quake and by then “Earthquake” was a hot topic on Twitter Search. Even the Associated Press (AP) pushed out the news after 9 minutes as what Twitter blog reports.

This clearly suggests that there’s more scope for social news-wire in future and Twitter is just at the right track for that. Twitter can send updates via IMs, SMS , Emails, RSS and even through apps like Facebook.  So we are not very far away from time where we would be able to track global news at our fingertips and that too real time.
