Digg is one of the first website that started the concept of sharing great stories all around the world by the community.   • Digg was started in late 2004 headed by Kevin Rose and Jay Adelson.
  • DiggNation was the first name that was suggested for the site. They even tried for the domain dig.com but it was already occupied and they finally had to bought digg.com domain for a hefty amount then. Diggnation is still used as a podcast website by Kevin Rose.
  • Google tried to acquire Digg in 2008 for about 200 million dollars which later on it neglected.
  • Digg received Traffic averaging around 35 million per month in 2008 as reported by Kevin Rose.
  • More than 20K stories are submitted to Digg each day with very few of them able to make it to popular front page stories.
  • Nobody knows about the actual Algorithm that Digg is following to promote stories upwards but it mostly depends on the digging and burying diversity of Digg users.
  • In May 2007 Digg banned several of its users who submitted the article containing the AACS encryption key of HD DVD and Blue Ray and deleted the article permanently. Digg users started "digital revolt" with lots of comments and blog writings and the whole community was disturbed.
