There are thousands of Gadgets available for download for Windows Vista. But if you don’t have Vista, you can’t run them on your Windows XP machine. Though there are several other small little apps to do the job for XP.
Joshoon has come up with real Sidebar for Windows XP. It uses Alky framework to port the sidebar to Windows XP.
To get them running on your Windows XP machine, download the package, install Alky from it and run the Sidebar. It also contains the Gadget Gallery.
Download Sidebar for Windows XP from here.

I’ve tried to install the way u teach. The sidebar appeared at my Windows XP withe the gadget but some did not function. Why? For example, the slide show, clock & calendar function BUT the currency converter, weather & wireless status not functioned although my internet connecyion is connected. So confused…Please advice. TQ.
the Joshoon one was coming up as a virus on my system with avira, although its likely a false alarm/false positive..
Ive found the “rainmeter” application which also does a great job at changing the look of xp, it can use different skins to make windows look nothing like xp, and its free:

arguably the best version of the vista sidebar skin for rainmeter is “vista rainbar” as the joshoon one above is out of date now, and you can get it here – you click on the text just under “add to favourites” :

its not perfect yet but its probably the best out there, and if updates become available you should find them on deviantart
