How to record your compositions free with audacity

Record your voice If you are a beginner playing guitar or any other music instrument like piano, violin etc. or for that matter just want to record your song in plain voice then why not try recording your novice compositions and listen them in future ?

Earlier as a beginner I used to record them on Windows sound recorder which was very limited not giving me full control to save them in mp3 format or change the bit rate and the duration was limited to one minute.

Audacity is a free audio editor giving full control for a beginner to record their compositions. To start recording mp3s first download audacity from their website. Then download lame encoder which will convert the raw data into mp3 format.

Lame encoder will be an archive. Extract lame_enc.dll and place that in some folder. For easy reference create C:\encoders and then extract it there.

Start Audacity and then go to Edit –> Preference –> File Format tab and click on Find Library Button. Select your lame_enc.dll from the folder where you’ve stored it above. Now select the Bit Rate. Select 128 if you don’t know what bit rate is.

Finally, make sure that microphone is plugged in and then click record button. With Audacity you can even record long compositions and can apply effects etc too.

Once done with recording select File –> Export as MP3 and choose the folder where you want to store the recording.

For advance users, you can also record your instrument separately and overlap your voice with it later if you want. You’ll find much more features if you start exploring it and all for FREE.

Do comment if you have some more suggestions on how to record your voice or compositions in mp3 formats
