How to hide or password protect a folder in Windows XP

Windows Logo If there are multiple administrators on same Windows XP machine then it becomes quite difficult to protect your privacy. Anyone can see any of your folder contents and private documents.

Free Hide Folder is a free utility to hide your private folders.  No one else would know where are your personal files. You can also protect your folders by a password which you can change or remove anytime you want.

Free Hide Folder

You just need to add a folder and then right click for options to hide. Free Hide folder is very light sized freeware (~750KB)  and can run on Windows XP/20003, 2000/9x/Me/NT. You can download free copy from here.

    Hey good post. But I was disappointed.

    Well.. you could have just told us to use
    attrib +s

    Did you use it. I guess its for very normal people or beginners of Xp. I was expecting it to be more advanced and tamper proof.

    @Quakeboy

    well “ATTRIB +S +H ” will hide the file for sure too. But in that case anyone else can show all hidden files to view it.
    And moreover you can’t password protect your file with any of the console commands of Windows like in Linux..

    And quakerboy do you think beginners will have that much knowledge to run commands on windows console ? I feel that software solution will be much easier for them. isn’t it ?

    You are right. Software solution is wht everyone prefers, not only beginners :)

    Well.. here also the password was just a gimmick I thought
    Because when I hid a folder, it just added +s +h and then renamed it as CHKDSK_001 or something like that. It was visible through console dir /as command.

    Overall.. yes this is a good software, but one problem dude. I installed this software. Tried to uninstall and it said some log was not found. I was in admin only.

    Moreover It changed my registry like some recent viruses do. and now I am not able to see system files even if I uncheck the hide system files in Folder Options :(

    Please try it yourself and tell me if you have the same problem.
