Today I saw one blog which is barely a month old and having close to 500 inbound links. For this much of inbound links pagerank should at least be 3 as what everybody believes. But that’s not correct. It had PR 0.
There existed one more blog which is also around one and a half month old having just 40 inbound links and had PR 1.
Why is that so ?
I closely examined both of the blog, did some research that why is that happening. PR1 Blog had very good and genuine articles written. I tried searching Google for some of the article’s content and I even found PR1 website to rank 1 on some of the search results. They also have followed the things that new bloggers are unaware of.
On the other hand PR0 website showed me almost no results on first 10 pages instead showed me very few trackbacks (do follow) written by them on some other website that too on searching the back links (link:http://website) on Google.
Search Engines are very smart these days. You can’t just make fool out of them by self writing comments on your blog or other’s blog or by trackbacks or link exchange on some website of high pagerank etc. Those doesn’t count for increasing the pagerank.
I’ve even seen some people creating an account on digg and digging few of the popular posts on the web and that particular moment digging some of their posts too even though content (king) has no effective presence in it.
I do agree that commenting and link exchanges (though not excessive) are one of the ways to increase the traffic and hence the pagerank but you should be honest publisher and should not go beyond the limits. Be Genuine!
Tips for newbies
- When you start a blog always try to write something that you think will be of some importance to someone. Write like a good blogger.
- Informative/News articles have very less value if your blog is new. There will be hordes of websites covering the same information somewhere else and having better pagerank than you.
- Don’t comment on your own blog thinking that number of comments on particular post will make it popular. You have to have the content, comments are secondary at this moment.
- Trackbacks are safe but you should not link to bad neighborhood as per Google’s policy. This can make your blog polluted too in terms of pagerank.
- You can digg your post if you want but never create so many new accounts when your article is out and then start digging on your own. In fact for the first 2 months try to avoid digging. Write at least 100 posts first and build some reputation.
- For a genuine inbound link, submit your articles to some online magazine like ezine where you can link back to your site or donate your one of the best article to some other good blog asking for a backlink. I can understand the pain of not writing it in your blog, but believe me your blog will be flying in no time.
- Keep updating your blog by writing articles on regular basis to make it popular.
