Nokia N97 – Is it Multi-touch or Haptikos enabled ?

 Nokia N97

This is the most important question when we want to compare iPhone with Nokia N97. There are tons of phones today that are touch enabled , then what is so special in Nokia N97 ?

Well, to answer the question, NO, Nokia N97 is not multi-touch enabled. And neither it comes with that Nokia’s patented Haptikos tactile screen technology which gives you actual feeling that you are pressing the real keys unlike iPhone where it is just the visual display.

Now the question is, why should one buy Nokia N97 and not an iPhone ? Is Nokia N97 yet another iPhone Killer that can really convince us not to buy iPhone ?

Let us first have a look at the features that N97 is equipped with -

  • 3.5 inch touch resistive screen
  • 5 mega pixel camera which has Flash
  • QWERTY keyboard (slide out)
  • Connectivity: 3G, WiFi
  • Memory: 32GB inbuilt and expandable to 48GB using MMC card
  • GPS locator
  • Dimensions:  117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9mm

Apart from the high res camera there’s nothing Nokia can boast about this iPhone Killer. And probably no other phone can beat Apple’s iTunes App Store which is again a revolutionary concept. Though you have several Nokia apps available for download but again, the user experience counts a lot.

Other than that, for Asia and Europe N97 could be hot selling, as iPhone prices are already sky rocketing with an approx price tag of 650$ in India. At these locations Nokia already has its well settled domain. It’ll approximately cost around 550 Euros in Europe, though we have no idea about Asian markets.

At the moment, it’ll be hard to comment on Nokia’s S60 touch resistive screen but this is for sure that multi-touch experience has its own charm and nothing can beat that. If you own an iPhone or have used it then you must be knowing this fact very well.

I think you have it backwards. Nokia’s domain is world – it’s shark in koi pond comparing to other phone manufacturers. :) It’s USA (and few other countries) where it’s weaker.

PS for the record I don’t own iPhone (and probably won’t) and have huge trouble imaging what would I need multi touch for :)

this article is old. Yes, the n97 does have Haptik feedback now, though it is still unclear whether it will have multi-touch, but highly unlikely… unless they make a surprising move and reveal they made a contract with Stantum technology and have inputed multi touch onto resistive touch screen. IF that were too happen… i would buy the device in a heartbeat even with a large price tag.

hey im using the nokia n97 now and i think its an iphone killer its amazing so easy to use and the keypad is awesome and soft lolz

  • n97 user

I’m using n97 and I have iPod Touch. I like both. iPod sensor is better but I can’t image how people write sms and urls without keypad. Nokia’s keypad is the best thing in n97. I like look and feel of Nokia more. I don’t need multitouch in my phone but I need the keypad.

And finally… I don’t like iphone users… Why are you sweating and writing such a stupid posts? Nokia is my choice and IPhone is yours’. I like my phone and you like your phone too. What’s the problem?

i have a n97 amd i had an iphone, and i have to say that iphone is the clear winner…….but, the only reason i say that is because i am a gamer and the iphone offers a much richer gaming experiece. If it wasnt for that i would definitly go with nokia

p.s what do you mean you woudnt need multitouch. Its the best thing to happen to phones since touchscreen phones
