Nintendo DSi was released in United States on April 5, 2009, though it was unveiled in Japan much before than that (October 2, 2008). I have compiled some tips that may be helpful to you too. Please comment below if you would like to add few more.

About DSi Shop
DSi is a big upgrade over the previous Nintendo DS and DS Lite editions. You can see the full list of features of DSi that we mentioned in our recent article. Apart from the hardware changes, it’s worthy to mention DSi Shop that Nintendo has introduced as a marketplace to buy games and apps directly from online store. (Wow)
Get Free 1000 points
If you own Nintendo DSi then you must be knowing that you can access Nintendo DSi Shop to get 1000 free Nintendo DSi points before October 2009 (hurry!)
How can I buy Nintendo points to buy stuff from DSi shop ?
It’s very easy! . When you go to DSi shop you’ll be prompted to either redeem your points from Nintendo points card(which are available in stores) or you can also buy the points using your Credit Card. The whole process is very simple to understand.
How much does Nintendo DSi points cost ?
1000 DSi points = 10 USD. This is in fact very cheap if you consider the games that you bought for your DS or DS Lite (Read below).
Download the DSi Browser first
Since the browser is free of cost, you should download it first before downloading any other app or game. The browser is co-developed by Opera and Nintendo. Though some of the websites may not open but you can always upgrade for the fixes later.
Can I check my mails in DSi ?
Yes you can! You can open Gmail or any other email service using your DSi browser and check and reply your mails if you are connected to internet using Wi-Fi.
Can I see YouTube videos on my DSi ?
No you cannot. Nintendo DSi doesn’t support Flash yet. So you won’t be able to play YouTube videos.
How to Browse internet on the DSi ?
When you open a website in your device, you’ll have 2 screens, one of which is overview mode showing you the highlight of some part on the web page which you are seeing in another DSi Window. Select the particular section of a webpage using this overview mode and browse using your stylus on other Window.
How much does Nintendo DSi games and apps cost ?
You can buy and download games and apps depending on the number of Nintendo points you have. The games and apps that are available at DSi shop will either be free of cost or will cost 200, 500 or 800+ Nintendo points which are marked as premium. As mentioned above, 1000 Nintendo points will cost you 10$.
How many games can I download and play ?
Well, DSi is equipped with 256MB of internal storage (flash memory). If you really feel that you have to download lots of free apps and games or buy them, then you should buy an SD card storage for your DSi. It can support up to 32GB of storage. You can easily buy them at Amazon or any other online store for a cheap price.

hmmm…how odd. I have the DSi and I appear to have only a select few of the apps listed there. And some that you dont have listed there. I wonder if there are different apps in different places. I live in Texas.

I got 1000 free Nintendo DSi point by registered my DSi but I don’t seems to able to redeem my points. When I try to shop at DSi Shop it shows 1000 Nintendo DSi Points on the top screeen. Since you can only redeem the points through the Nintendo Point Card or Credit Card I wonder how I actually redeem my 1000 points? In Account Activity it said
Nintendo DSi Points: 0 p.
Balance: 1000 p.
The second screen shows:

i have a yahoo e.mail and every time ihit compose to right a letter it wont type it sets it up but i click on the writing area like i did to type this one but it wont go i can only check the e.mails please help…

I absolutely love nintendo! As a thirteen year old, I have about 7 of their systems. (Starting with the NES) Anyways, yes I agree with the others. I only see a select variety of the apps and games you put onto the article. I’m not bashing on you for possibly making a mess-up, because I do think that they have different apps in different areas. (i.e. The DSi came out in Japan and U.K. before the DSi in U.S.A did. So there is a very good chance that that might be the same reason that some of the apps are a bit late getting here. If you get the chance, please e-mail me back your thoughts!

what do you believe the best Card and such for non nintendo apps would be? r4… linux… open developement… what type of homebrew and such combo would you suggest?
