As per the recent press release by Reserve Bank of India they’ll soon be putting new 10 Rs. coins into circulation. If you don’t know, there was a 10 Rs. coin long time back which was huge and portrait of Mahatma Gandhi was engraved in it (I have that with me). This time it is entirely different.
The new 10 Rs. coin is designed by National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad. This bimetallic coin is made of Nickel, Aluminium and Copper metal and Steel from inner side and will have the theme "Unity in Diversity".
I’ve no clue if it’s a rumor or what but as I remember MSN India published the news last year in August that the coins worth 70 million are already there in the stock.
As per RBI’s website –
" This face of the coin contains the visuals showing stylised representation of "Unity in Diversity", a defining characteristic of our country. The symbol shall be seen as four heads sharing a common body. It shall be thought of as people from all four parts of the country coming together under one banner and identifying with one nation. The visual code helps the user connect the visual with an individual denomination, which makes the process of identification quicker. The left upper periphery contains the words " ome ©he³es " in Hindi and "Ten Rupees" in English. "
Since the press release was on 26th March, 2009 we may see these new 10Rs. coins very soon in circulation.

Why are Indians hypocrates? One side we criticise the British and on the other side we keep copying what the British do. These 10 rupee coins are the same as 2 GBP coins in circulation in the UK. Obviously the design is diffrent. One good thing is that Gandhi’s face is not there. Lets start holding our nation above than any individual-its high time.
excellent

This is cool. I really don’t like keeping 10 Rs. notes in my pocket.
