If you are a NFS game lover and were not really satisfied with NFS most wanted and NFS Pro Street, Undercover can disappoint you once again. The overall game play of NFS series of games have been sinking after Need for Speed Underground.
EA has failed to live up to the expectations of serious gamers who not just want a terrific story but also the real game play. But as a normal gamer if you liked Need for Speed Most wanted and Hot Pursuit then you may also want to try Undercover. With slightly better creativity and gameplay than Pro street, Undercover features Pursuit tasks that includes Cop Take Out, Cost to State and Escape.
Story & Plot
As the name suggests, you are a undercover agent involved in illicit street racing in Tri-City which is a fictional city. The players have to accept and compete in the races in order to pass through and take down the international smuggling of street racers and automobile thieves. All the process is being guided to you by detective Chase Linh played by Maggie Q (actress of Live Free Die Hard fame).Game Play
All NFS games are usually easy. Undercover is darn easy compared to previous games. If you have played previous versions, then this will be a piece of cake for you till level 10 if you are properly upgrading your cars. After level 10 all racing will become little difficult and tense.
Sprint and Circuit modes are still retained in Undercover though it doesn’t have Drift and Drag modes which were there in some of the previous versions including Underground. Apart from these there are around more than 8 modes including Highway battle, Cost to State, Escape, Checkpoint, Mission and Chasedown. PS3 , XBox 360 PC and Wii owners can also enjoy Cops ‘n’ Robbers and The Heist mode while Nintendo DS and PSP owner have Criminal Scramble mode where players are the cop and have to chase criminals (Reminds me of old Hot Pursuit days)
Adding more to that, police vehicles now includes helicopters which are not that much pushy if compared to NFS Most Wanted but the Police is more strict this time.
You may also see Speedbreakers, Nitro mode, Pursuit Breakers and heat levels which will be announced soon.
Conclusion
If you enjoyed cops chasing you in Hot Pursuit and Most wanted and want to have some great customization options then this is the game for you. With so many modes to choose from you may start loving it.
But if you completely rely on the gameplay and the story plot for a game then you may find Undercover giving you yet another shock if you are an avid NFS lover.
RATING: 6/10
