So you browse hundreds and thousands of websites daily, but do you know that when you open up a website from any external link, HTTP referrer information headers are being passed to that site.
Suppose you got a link in your email by your friend pointing you to some website. When you open up that link, you are passing the information that from where have you been redirected from. So if you are using your office mail account, that website will have information that you came to them from your office mail which may also show the name of the company you work for.
In Firefox you can disable and block the passing of HTTP Referrer headers -
Open Firefox, and on address bar type about:config and press enter.
Look for config key network.http.sendRefererHeader and double click on it and change the value from 2 to 0.
So next time you open up a link, it’ll block the referrer URL to be passed to that website.

Very handy indeed. These days we have to look after our privacy on the web - to put it into perspective, in real life this would be like someone at every store you go into asking you where you’ve just been.. just not on
From a webmaster’s perspective, he/she can anonymise their outgoing clicks (hide themselves as a referer) through the usage of a simple service the likes of spoofurl.com
Really informative info. Hiderefer.com can be used for webmasters looking to hide referral information .. Works like a charm.
