Google replies to Makeuseof, It was yet another phishing mail
In reply to recent allegations by Makeuseof.com against GMail for its stolen domain recently, Google has finally posted a post on their blog. According to them they have verified the security checks and have found no vulnerabilities in the GMail system.
This wasn’t the case of phishing attack but a trick by which a hacker will send you a mail asking you to login to your Google account on some website having similar name such as google-mail.com etc. and having exactly the same mirrored interface. As a non geeky user you may not realize that and without checking your address bar, will login there. This will reveal your account information to the hacker along with the username and the password.
So before login, always check if the domain name is starting from https://www.google.com/accounts and only then login. And you should never click through any warnings that your browser may throw at you. Potentially, this could be another trick by a hacker to hack your mail account so then it doesn’t matter if you have GMail account or Live Hotmail or Yahoo.
