Microsoft today has released the service pack 2 (SP2) of their Flagship product Windows for Vista as well as Windows server 2008. The service pack 2 mainly focuses on improved performance, reliability and driver compatibility issues that Vista had with service pack 1 (SP1).
You can directly download Vista Service Pack 2 from Microsoft’s website and install it on your Vista machine. Though you need to have Service Pack 1 already installed which is a prerequisite for it. And if you don’t have it installed then you can again download Vista Service Pack 1 from Microsoft’s site.
According to Mike Nash Vista SP2 contains changes that will support new hardware and adding support for emerging standards.
As he describes, some of the new features in Vista SP2 -
- Faster search and improved relevancy
- Support for Bluetooth 2.1 which is the latest standard.
- Record or burn Blue Ray discs with Windows Vista
- Windows Connect WiFi configuration.
- Support for exFAT file system
But remember, you should only install the beta if you want to try out new features. Betas are not recommended to be installed on your personal machines as you never know a bug can crash all your data!
