Download Fennec, mobile version of Firefox for PC

Fennec is much awaited mobile version of Firefox with Gecko Engine by Mozilla which is scheduled to release some time next year. Today Mozilla has released Alpha 2 version of Fennec on their website for download.

The last release of Fennec was in October when they made alpha 1 version available for public. Now with alpha 2 version Mozilla has added touch screen support, improved user interface and better responsiveness of panning and zooming.

Right now, Fennec can only be installed on OS2008 platform (Maemo) which is supported by Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. If you own N810 then just install Fennec by opening the link in browser.

However, Mozilla has also made Fennec available for download for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux users too. You can download Fennec for PC and experiment with writing add-ons for it.

At first impression, the look and feel of Fennec looks like Safari on iPhone with almost same way to pan a page. It has Opera Mini like zooming feature which unlike iPhone’s Multitouch, has to be operated by a key for low end symbian phones.

Though rendering and overall experience of Fennec is impressive but it’ll take some time to push it to everybody’s data enabled phone facing tough competition from Opera Mini for Mobiles.
