Amazon has announced the next generation of its one of the most popular Digital Reader Kindle. Kindle DX as what they say it, is a large screen addition to the Kindle family. Kindle DX is scheduled to be released this summer. So if you are planning to buy one, first compare the difference between the old Kindle and the Kindle DX.
Display
Kindle DX has around 1.5 times bigger display than the older edition. It has got 9.7 inch diagonal E-Ink electronic display with a resolution of 1200 x 824. Older Kindle is just 6 inches with 800 x 600 resolution. This means you can read much better in Kindle DX.
Size Comparison
Both the Kindles are approximate 1/3 of an inch in thickness. Kindle DX is 10.4 inch (height) x 7.2 inch (width). Older one is 8 inch (height) x 5.3 inch (width). So you can see Kindle DX is really bigger in size.
Internal Storage
Kindle DX has 4GB of internal storage, while the older on was just 2GB. This means you can store more books in Kindle DX.
Battery Life
It’s the same for both of them i.e. 4 days of usage with wireless on. And around 2 weeks of usage with wireless off.
Auto rotating Screen (Accelerometer)
Kindle DX has got accelerometer like an iPhone. This means it can change views from landscape to portrait mode and vice versa as you rotate your device. This feature was not present in the older edition.
Inbuilt PDF reader
Kindle DX has also got built-in PDF reader. This means you can carry your documents with you on the go and read them on Kindle. In the older version you first needed to convert the PDFs to Kindle supported format.
Number of Books
Kindle DX can hold up to around 3500 books while the older one has the capacity of holding around 1500 books. That hardly makes any difference as 1500 is also a very big number!
Price of Kindle DX
Kindle DX is little expensive. It comes for a price of $489. Older one is for $359. Including taxes, Kindle DX will be above $500. But definitely, if you are an avid reader, it’s worth every cent.
