Chrome like Tabs in Mozilla Firefox 3.1 ?

Mozilla Firefox You might be aware, Firefox 3.1 is on its way and you never know Mozilla Corporation may release it next month in February. We’ve already covered new features that Firefox 3.1 will be going to have. Today Mike Beltzner who is a director of Firefox announced this small change in the Tab switching behaviour of Firefox.

Currently how tab opens in Firefox -

  • If you open a tab from a link, it straight away goes to the end of the tab bar. Also new tab opens up in similar manner at the end. This is sometimes quite annoying as you never know from where did the newly opened tab came from ?

New Behaviour of Firefox tabs

  • Mike clearly stated that this small change would now allow you to open a tab from a link just next to the current tab and if you open a new tab, it’ll go to the end. And if multiple tabs are opened the tabs will be aligned sequentially.

If you’ve used Internet Explorer 8 beta, you must be aware of the color coded tabs in it. This new change is very similar to it and almost the same as Google Chrome’s tab behaviour. But we’ll be glad if Firefox can also implement the color coded tabs like IE8 along with this one.

You can also tweak your Firefox with so many tab extensions available at Mozilla’s addon site. You may also want to try the addon to group tabs on domain name like IE8.
