Chances are that if you work a standard 9 to 5 job, you’re spending a majority of your time sitting behind a desk, staring at a computer screen. If this is your life Monday through Friday, then I probably don’t have to tell you how uncomfortable it is spending an entire day sitting in a chair – unless you have the right chair, of course!
An ergonomically designed chair can make a world of difference, helping your posture and reducing considerable strain on your back. Herman Miller, a leader in modern furniture design since the 1930s, has mastered the art of the office chair – creating a few collections that are as stylish as they are comfortable, seamlessly melding together both form and function.
The top selling Herman Miller chair and my personal favorite is the Aeron Chair. Here’s a little bit more on what makes the Aeron the most desired piece of office furniture today.
The Aeron Chair
Corporations big and small have embraced Herman Miller’s Aeron Chair as the standard in office seating. Setting the bar high, the Aeron Chair integrates a distinctive design aesthetic with pioneering ergonomics to create something truly amazing.
Available in 3 different sizes, each with a slew of additional features and customizable fabric options – the Aeron Chair is a must have for any office.
The Aeron provides natural, custom-fitted lower back support, which reduces strain on the spine. It adapts naturally and adjusts precisely to fit people of all sizes and postures, providing maximum comfort all day long.
Available in both "Basic" and "Fully Loaded" models, depending on how many features you want (and how much more you want to spend!) the Aeron comes in A, B or C sizes. Some of the exciting features available include:
- Kinemat Tilt System: This state of the art tilt system accommodates all three of the basic seated postures, as defined by designer Bill Stumpf for George Washington University. The design of the chair corresponds to natural linkages and the movement of the human body. The sitter’s feet, arms and back support remain in place while reclining or leaning forward. Every Aeron Chair includes this innovative system.
- Lumbar Support: This optional feature for the Aeron Chair is designed to provide additional comfort and stability. A lumbar pad connects to the chair back and adjusts vertically through a 4 1/2 foot height range.
- PostureFit: This feature is only available on the Loaded Aeron Chair and is provides additional lower back support. PostureFit provides gentle ergonomic support, coalescing to the contours of the sitter’s body. It works directly with the sitter’s body mechanics to sustain the natural forward tilt of the pelvis which reduces fatigue and improves comfort.
- Casters: The Aeron Chair is available with 4 different caster options to accommodate any type of office flooring – from a low-pile carpet to a hardwood floor!
- Impeccably Styled: Just as stylish as it is comfortable, the Aeron chair features three unique Pellicle weaves available in a variety of neutral colors as well as various base and frame finishes, designed to complement the fabric of your choice.
- Eco-Friendly Design: Not only is this chair a visual stunner but it’s also eco-friendly! Made largely from recycled materials, the Aeron is built to last.
The winner of numerous awards and countless accolades, including the prestigious "Designs of Decades" title by Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and Business Week Magazine, the Aeron Chair is more than just an office chair – it’s a way of life!
While its price might be steep, ranging from $750 to about $1,200, it’s definitely a worthy investment, especially considering how much time you spend sitting at desk. There is also a side chair and a work stool available under as part of the Aeron collection.
If you’re fortunate enough to own an Aeron, you’re most certainly sitting very pretty!

ummm… can I do this one as well?
The aeron is twenty years old. And it reflects it!
Mesh seating is bad… it’s actually rigid and doesn’t give, creating pressure points leading to circulation and nervous issues. The chair doesn’t allow the body to open up and stretch, keeping it in a static position for too long. It’s a great-looking chair and recyclable, but… as an ergo chair?….
I disagree. Before I purchased my Aeron Chair, I was having a lot of back pain. I have had an Aeron chair, and two years later now, I am cured of all back pain. i doubt that this is coincidence.
I agree with Tim. My back is so much better after having an Aeron. Plus, have you ever tried to sit in a chair after hip surgery? I have, and the only thing that worked was that chair. Yea, they can be pricey, but if you go somewhere like preownedaerons.com you can eliminate that problem along with leg fatigue.
I’ve heard a lot about Aeron. I want to have chair that is economical in price and best for my hurting back. Please suggest one
